On September 18th DESA – Dubrovnik denoted its 15th anniversary. The manifestation took place at DESA’s premises in Lazareti, and there were present the representatives of Dubrovnik-neretva County, City of Dubrovnik, numerous institutions, DESA’s members and other invited persons. Mrs. Jany Hansal greeted the guests, and gave a speech on the past years and DESA’s achievements.
Among other things, Mrs Hansal said: When DESA started with its work there was no aim to be seen in front of us. Our surrounding was in smoke, and all we could have done was to search a way to raise above the place and circumstances that were unbearable and impossible to live in. Ten years ago (in 1998) we moved into these premises with much better working conditins.
For the very first time, in the distance we could clearly see the aim towards which we were supposed to go. Nowadays, with setting in motion positive changes through its educational programmes, DESA gives a great contribution to to higher quality of life in the community. These programmes have been designed as an answer to the community needs and they offer the possibiilities for unemployed, especially women and youth, to acquire new skills and knowledges. They also promote traditional values and encourage the activities concerning revival and preservation of the heritage.“ Closing her speech, Mrs Hansal handed over 30 letters of thanks to the institutions, medie and individuals, who selflessly have supported DESA’s work during the past 15 years.
Mrs Lucia Bronzan, the first honorary member of DESA, also greeted the guests with the occasional speech, speaking also about the most important DESA’s project at the moment „Centre for responsible tourism of Adriatic region“. DESA has been implementing this project in co-operation with Italian partners from Florence and Marche region. Mrs. Bronzan also handed over diplomas to the young people who succesfully passed the training course for the Local development agents.
