7. Croatian Festival of Jams and Marmalades

The “7th Croatian Festival of Jams and marmalades ” was held on Stradun, in front of St. Blaise church from October 11th to 13th. Over 30 small producers from the Croatia and abroad, exhibited more than a hundred types of jams, jellies and marmalades – from oranges, figs, plums, lemons, cherries, strawberries and other fruits in all possible combinations. Festival of jams and marmalades, which traditionally, for the seventh year in a row, improves the tourist offer of Dubrovnik, was organized by the Associations DESA and Dubrovnik orange, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce – County Chamber of Dubrovnik.

The festival began on October 11th at the premises of DEŠA – Dubrovnik, where the expert evaluation of the exhibited products was held. The jury consisted of: Iva Mračić mag. ing food technology, Marija Marinović Peričević, BSc. ing, representatives of the Department of olives and Mediterranean culture and Sanda Desnica, BSc. ing, head of the Laboratory of the Institute for Mediterranean Culture at the University of Dubrovnik and culinary professor Josip Žuvela from Dubrovnik, expertly rated more than 70 samples of jams and marmalades.

The exhibition part of the festival was held on October 12th and 13 at the Luža Square, and a large number of domestic and foreign visitors attended the presentation of fresh and colorful products from the Croatia. Festival welcomed the President of the Organizing Committee Ms. Jany Hansal and representative of the City of Dubrovnik Mrs. Olga Muratti and Deputy Prefect of Dubrovnik – Neretva County, Mr. Davorko Obuljen declared this event opened. The aim of the festival was the presentation of high-quality local products and promotion of the abundance of Croatian heritage. The youngest, the kids from Eco-omblići and pupils from the Primary school Marin Getaldić joined us on the workshop on drawing and painting, and created their works on the themes: Fruit, jams and marmalades. This year we didn’t miss “The joy with pancakes,” which caused delight of all visitors.

7th festival of jams and marmalades was realized with the financial support of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dubrovnik Neretva County and the City of Dubrovnik. Slowly but surely, Festival turns into a traditional event and its content greatly contributes to the tourist offer of the season . Besides the main objective of presenting quality products of small producers from rural Croatian areas , the Festival achieved its cultural dimension as pervades tradition, customs and original products transforming them into unique gastronomic souvenir.
