Within the frame of the grant of the EU Delegation, “Young at Heart – the Award of the European Year for Active Ageing”, Ms. Marija Veltruski won the award for the Best Senior in 2012, for her selfless work in the community.
On the occasion of this award, on the October 24th 2012, Ms. Veltruski, with the help of DEŠA – Dubrovnik and the Delegation of the European Union, organized a Generational gathering at the Hotel Admiral in Slano.
On the behalf of the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth, the present were welcomed by the director of the Centre for Social Welfare, Ms. Katica Raič, and on behalf of Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the director of Regional Development Agency Dunea, Ms. Melanija Milić.
Within the rich cultural program participated pupils from the primary school Slano, the participants of the Small school for embroidery of Dubrovačko primorje as well as the participants from other activities that Ms Veltruski personally organized in the local community. There was organized also the children’s dance Linđo, and a fashion show of traditional costumes from Dubrovačko primorje in its original forms and its application to today’s fashion. In the hotel lobby, during the entire event, were exibited the works of the Small school for embroidery of Dubrovačko primorje.
The event was attended by about 60 children from Primary school Slano and same number of local residents and guests from Dubrovnik.
