• A group of women volunteers, future DEŠA’S founders, first got together in 1991, at the very beginning of hostilities in the former Yugoslavia. At that time they gave assistance to mothers whose sons were regular recruits in the Yugoslav federal army. The mothers traveled to Belgrade together and participated in an organized protest against the regime which was sending their sons to shoot at their own people. By the autumn of 1991 Dubrovnik, too, came under the mindless attack of that same army.
